Cylinder Block No. 1

The Montessori Cylinder Block No. 1 introduces children to the first stage of visual discrimination of size. This classic Montessori cylinder block helps children explore differences in dimension, height, and diameter through hands-on learning. By removing and replacing the cylinders, children develop visual perception, concentration, coordination, and an understanding of size relationships.

Made from solid beechwood with a satin-smooth lacquer finish, the block is designed for repeated use in Montessori classrooms. Each cylinder is individually sanded and lacquered, while the slightly rounded edges provide a smooth, comfortable finish, to make sure that it does not get stuck in the block.

The cylinders progress from small to large in both height and diameter, allowing children to visually compare and distinguish different dimensions that increase and decrease. The material provides an opportunity to explore the relationship between the cylinders and the cylinder block while developing precision and control.
