More than 100 years of experience

For over a century, Heutink has been speaking the language of its target audience. The Netherlands-based family business was founded by Reinier Willem Heutink in 1911. Initially, the focus was on selling bibles and books, but entrepreneurial spirit and ambition soon saw the range of available products expand. Heutink started supplying notebooks, ink, pencils, chalks, blackboards, clay and other educational materials. And in 1912 the first school was equiped. This was the start of a successful formula. The goal: the safe and optimal development of children worldwide.

His son Bertus, shared Reinier Willem’s passion and enthusiasm. He started working in the company in 1957 and under his wings, Heutink became the Dutch market leader for sales of school materials. Today, it is a successful international business and an authority in the field of educational materials. For the last 15+ years, the third generation of the Heutink family, Jessica Heutink and son in law Henk Fokke, form the board of Heutink.
Today Heutink is a succesfull worldwide operation and leading authority in eductional materials. We believe in the natural development of children and wants to contribute to that in any way it can. Collaborating with people who share our passion for education is just one of the ways we hope to achieve our goals. After all, growing isn’t something you do alone.

In 2001, Heutink acquired Educo, a business based in Veldhoven. Educo was founded in 1982 and is geared towards developing innovative new products for modern educational methods. Educo’s range perfectly matches Heutink’s philosophy: educational materials which support children’s development through play. The business is a real asset for Heutink and its target audience.

Nienhuis Montessori.

Another global brand was acquired by Heutink a few years later: Nienhuis Montessori. Nienhuis Montessori was founded in 1929 by Albert Nienhuis, who collaborated with Maria Montessori to create products which reflected her vision of education. Children feel a natural drive to develop and need to be given the opportunity to do so freely. Heutink enables children to discover the world independently through Nienhuis Montessori. We only use the best materials, created with care, commitment and attention to detail. Nienhuis combines skill with technology, and has been doing so for over 80 years. Educating people is a skill.
In 1975, a distribution centre was opened in the United States to focus on Montessori clients in North and South America. Nienhuis Montessori has been officially endorsed by the Association Montessori Inernationale for decades. It is also the most popular brand when it comes to Montessori materials. Heutink works with specialists from within the field of education who share our ambition. In line with the Montessori vision, we develop materials which create a stimulating educational environment, based on the individual child, teacher, class and materials.

Logistics centre.

Heutink opened a logistics centre in Zelhem (NL), as part of the ‘Nienhuis’ brand. This is the main logistics facility for international shipments of Educo and Nienhuis Montessori products. The Jegro brand was added to our portfolio in 2013 and Arts & Crafts was added in 2014, making Heutink the direct and sole supplier of this complete package of educational materials.
